The Constitution of Tonga was formalised in 1875.  It is the founding document of all law in Tonga.  The Constitution of Tonga bestowed important freedoms and provided a structure for good governance.  It established a Parliament for law-making, the Judiciary for upholding the law, as well as the executive government.  The current King was the first Tongan to achieve a conjoint degree in law and arts at the University of Sydney.
